DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS: Beginning this past week, I've decided to move this series to Fridays, so the schedule for the next few weeks actually looks like this:

2/8: Metropolis (1927), Fritz Lang
2/15: The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928), Carl Theodor Dryer
2/22: Man with a Movie Camera (1929), Dziga Vertov
3/1: M (1931), Fritz Lang
3/8: L’Atalante (1934), Jean Vigo
3/15: Grand Illusion (1937), Jean Renoir
3/22: Rules of the Game (1939), Jean Renoir
3/29: Rome, Open City (1945), Roberto Rossellini
4/5: Beauty and the Beast (1946), Jean Cocteau
4/12: Bicycle Thieves (1948), Vittorio de Sica

As always, I may run a little late in posting, but I'm going to try to stick as closely as possible to this schedule.

As a current film studies student, I must say I find your work to be both thorough and thought provoking. You also seem to be rather open minded towards your source material, which I find refreshing.

In reply to Karl.

So glad to hear you want to come along for the ride! I've been trying to leave myself a little wiggle room, in case I change my mind and decide to add or drop movies along the way. However, if you promise not to hold me to it, I'll tell you the plan for the next couple of months, and when—roughly—I think the posts will go live. (I doubt the list will change, but I'll be shocked if all posts go up exactly when I think they will.) Most of these are available in many different versions, but I'll be sticking close to the Kino and Criterion collections.

2/3: Metropolis (1927), Fritz Lang
2/10: The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928), Carl Theodor Dryer
2/17: Man with a Movie Camera (1929), Dziga Vertov
2/24: M (1931), Fritz Lang
3/3: L’Atalante (1934), Jean Vigo
3/10: Grande Illusion (1937), Jean Renoir
3/17: Rules of the Game (1939), Jean Renoir
3/24: Rome, Open City (1945), Roberto Rossellini
3/31: Beauty and the Beast (1946), Jean Cocteau
4/7: Bicycle Thieves (1948), Vittorio de Sica

My schedule will get a little harder around then—the new movie release schedule will pick up, and three TV shows I review will all be back in April—but I'll post the plan for spring and summer once we get a little closer.

Hope this is helpful. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts along the way, Karl.
