Thanks, Aerynne. I inserted a mild spoiler warning in your comment, just because I too thought the foreshadowing and reveal of what "Skyfall" meant was very nicely handled, and don't want to spoil it for anyone else. (If only they'd done as good a job explaining what the hell "Quantum of Solace" meant...)

Your review is spot on - I loved everything about this Bond outing. [WARNING: Very mild spoilers ahead.] I liked
the fact that the entire reference to Skyfall is so peripheral. It provokes a strong reaction in Bond during the word association test ("Done") and then no further mention of it until we get a brief glance of the name plate in the third act. It is a small touch, but that brief visual coupled with that earlier test immediately conveyed just how difficult it was for Bond to return there.

I also want to second your girlfriend's enthusiastic endorcement of Daniel Craig, in any state of attire. He DOES look good!

I never liked Martinis, so I'll take your word for it. But if shaking it makes the drink cloudy, wouldn't that make it more difficult to see through it as you drink, and therefore more difficult to spot the assassin pointing a deadly poisoned blowgun at you from across the bar? Poor planning on James's part either way, I think.

I have nothing to add to your wonderful review, except: neither Bond nor President Bartlett know what they're talking about. Properly shaken/properly stirred will make no difference in the strength of the drink. But presentation is important, and you stir a martini so that the vermouth doesn't cloud and make the drink ugly.

A snob like Bond would certainly know that, so either he cares less about presentation and just doesn't trust the bartenders to stir the drink cold enough, or what, he's just being perverse.

Note also that a vodka martini is a really horrible drink unless you serve it cold enough that you can't actually taste it. We all laughed when we saw Pierce Brosnan drinking Smirnoff shots in "Tomorrow Never Dies," but that's pretty much what he's been drinking in the movies for years.
