What a great idea for a series of reviews (enjoyed the Blazing Saddles read, too.)

I was right there with you, eight years old at the theater when the movie came out and had never in my life been so blown away in my life, there had never been anything even close to it, I can just remember so vividly walking out of that theater just so blown away by what I had just seen. Nowadays, it's all been done, you can make a great movie, fill it full of the most eye-popping effects to date, and yet it's still a variation of something you've already seen somewhere else, a little bit of been there, seen that. The thing about when Star Wars came out, no one had seen anything even remotely close to that movie when it came out.

So it was a little painful to imagine how flat this 34 year old movie might fall on a 28 year old. I do know some friends my age who introduced their own kids to the saga when they were just about the same age we were when we first were blown away and it's cool to know the movies do live on in new generations beyond just Robot Chicken and Family Guy parodies.

Fun bits of conversation between you and N., though. Great idea for a series of reviews. Your girlfriend's a trooper, hope to see many new installments on the series. (Good choices, too. I wonder if she'll ever really be taken by any of your picks from the vaults?)

Okay, but you do realize that when N goes on trial for your grisly murder, I will have to testify in her defense right?

Excellent recommendation, Kymm. I'll order "I Am a Droid" so I can read it to N. at bedtime. (It says ages 4–8...that should be close enough, right?)

Between the two boys we went through about a five year stretch of Star Wars mania. It appears to have subsided at this point, but the only thing worse than forced viewing and reviewing of all six episodes were the exciting bedtime renditions of the 'I Am A ...' junior reader series. I Am A Droid was my personal bete noir. I could still probably recite gonk droid specs at you.

I definitely vote for a Blue Velvet/Sound of Music double feature next.

Oh, you mean that Christmas special wasn't just a bad, fever-induced nightmare I had in 1978? (We should have known right then that George Lucas wasn't going to be the best caretaker of this franchise.)

And as far as getting paid to do this, I quote the immortal Tevye: "If they would agree, I would agree."

Based on her attitude, I think you need to make N. watch "Star Wars: A Christmas Special." It would tie-in nicely with "Blazing Saddles" since Harvey Corman does a great job of playing a multiple-armed alien version of Rachel Ray. The endless wookie dialogue (WITHOUT subtitles!) would send her running off into the night.

And lastly.

This whole thing you're doing (whatever it is)...is really quite good, and from my point of view, someone should be paying you to do it.
