I appreciate the effort u made with blazzing saddles. I often wonder how many black people have seen this movie. And, if they would enjoy it. I work at a stamping plant outside Detroit and 95% of the plant workers are black men between the ages of 25 and 40. I am also curious if ppl today would more or less offended. Hello Critic, This is your niece. When my dad and I were visiting, I tried to get 'N" to watch 'Sound Of Music' with me for the blog, and I'd like to make sure that that film is still on the list. If we ever visit again, I'd love to watch a movie with you and 'N', and when you write about it, you should title it: "The Unenthusiastic Critic (plus Over-enthusiastic niece)" Just a thought. I'm confused,..You're discussing a movie where the "N" word is being thrown around left and right,.. and yet to conceal your African-American girlfriend's identity, you decide to "...just call her "N".{Really?} At best, it seems unclear. And at worst it sounds less-than-PC. How about for clarity's sake, in future reviews we just call her "Nancy". How 'bout that?

I believe that a general warning to NEVER allow a novice to watch "Blue Velvet" and "A Clockwork Orange" at the same sitting a good notion.

This piece has really hit home with me, as my wife grew up similarly culturally-challenged and needed me to provide her with a spreadsheet of movies that could go a long way into shoring up that gap. Blazing Saddles is on that list, and I think she would appreciate it as much as N. (However, I did get her to watch Arthur. She liked that and now understands at least a few brief moments when my best friend and I quote various movies for an hour at a time.) Star Wars? Sucked.
